The Dream Team of Doula Training:
DONA APPROVED birth DOULA TRAINER
Penny Lyon, BDT, CD(DONA)
Penny brings the wisdom of age and information, working in the field since 1976 as a doula and has been a DONA-Approved trainer since 2012.
Midwife and Doula
Geneva Montano, CPM, CD(DONA)
Geneva has a private home birth midwifery practice (sacredbirthdenver.com) in addition to her doula practice. She has been a birth worker since 2004.
Penny and Geneva are both experienced Doulas. Geneva is also a Certified Professional Midwife, postpartum doula, childbirth and CPR instructor, yoga teacher, spirit medicine and bodywork practitioner, and mother of 4. Penny is a DONA Approved Birth Doula Trainer, mother of 4, grandmother of 7, and mentor to hundreds of doulas. Between the two of them they have attended over 1200 births. Geneva will share her knowledge as a Home birth Midwife and the spiritual side of birthing. The strategic values provided by Penny and Geneva in their workshops, which separates them from other trainers, is their dedication to their students and their continuing commitment as mentors.
Students attending our workshops will discover the training weekend is only their first step in their journey to become Professional Birth Doulas. Penny and Geneva are committed to providing post workshop support to help their students build confidence and succeed as Birth Doulas. You will have the opportunity to join in advanced trainings and birth case reviews both in person and by conference call. They are committed to helping Doulas get the experience needed to grow professionally and become DONA Certified.
We offer a childbirth class for doulas to meet the DONA requirements for childbirth education before you take your doula training at most workshops. Breastfeeding classes are also offered several times per year.
We are actively involved and committed to “Radiant Beginnings, Doula Volunteer Program,” which is run by Bianca. This volunteer program involves Doulas, donating their time and expertise to birth givers with difficult issues and limited resources. This has proven to be an excellent way for new Doulas to get valuable experience in meeting DONA experience requirements and developing confidence as Birth Doulas. This is an optional program offered to our students. It is worth noting that over the years, many Doulas have found this program so rewarding they often continue to donate their time and skills. In addition to supporting Radiant Beginnings and offering scholarships for everything we teach, we are committed to donating a portion of all our workshop fees to community birth groups that support ending disparities among birthing people. Elephant Circle is one of our favorites!
Elephant Circle is a birth justice organization. We strive to remove obstacles to justice during childbirth and the two years surrounding it. Inspired by elephants who give birth within a circle of support, we envision a world where all people are fully supported and thriving during pregnancy, birth and as they become parents.
